Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: FG pays N16bn compensation

The Federal Government has paid N16 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the 70km Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway project.

A breakdown of the compensation lists showed that many of the affected structure were shanties whose owners received compensation to assist them secure a better place to leave and fast-track the project completion along the route.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has adjusted the road project to prevent removal of the Landmark beach and other multi-million property around it that were previously marked for demolition ahead the project commencement.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this on Sunday in Lagos while reeling out progress made on the project and other ongoing road construction embarked upon by the apex government.

Umahi noted that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is passionate to reduce travel time and boost commerce within the country, saying this is part of the reason behind the 70 kilometers infrastructure.
