LABOUR PARTY WANTS BUHARI TO PROBE FEDERAL ROADS PROJECT IN OGUN

Labour Party,LP,Ogun State Chapter has called on the federal government to thoroughly investigate the claimed amount of money spent on federal roads by the state government before refunding.
The party Chairman, Abayomi Arabambi and the Secretary, Sunday Ogini, made the call while featuring on Sweet F.M’s flagship live programme, ‘The Podium’, in Abeokuta.
The party leaders while speaking alleged that Governor Ibikunle Amosun was using the office of the Finance Minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, whom he nominated as Minister, to get refund on some roads that are yet be rehabilitated.
The duo recalled that, Adeosun served as the State Commissioner for Finance during Amosun’s first term between 2011 and 2015.
In the same vein, the opposition party also asked Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the road constructions being embarked upon in the state
The party specifically accused the governor of unfairness, bias and insincerity in the award of such road contracts as well as the locations which they are sited.‎ It also alleged that the state government had inflated the amount of money that is supposed to be refunded by the federal government.
The federal government owes 16 states the sum of N580.5 billion for the various rehabilitation works carried out on some federal roads in their territories, while Ogun State tops the list with the sum of N222.977 billion while Akwa Ibom State followed with N75.9 billion.
The state government is said to have awarded 38 contracts for the construction of the federal roads in the state from 2007 to date.
“On the issue of projects by Amosun’s government, , there is a lot of insincerity and there are not fairly distributed’,the party emphasised.
“Most of the roads that the governor wants to get refund for have not been rehabilitated and that is why we are calling on the anti-corruption agencies to investigate this claims”.
“If the governor is doing these things in good faith and the federal government refuses to refund, I will personally lead a protest to Abuja but because the governor nominated the Minister of Finance does not mean that everything should go”, the party’s scribe said.
