Kwara Govt Dismisses Allegations Against Security Agencies, Confirms NAF-DSS Joint Operation

The Kwara State Government has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Department of State Services (DSS) were not involved in recent security operations in the state.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, in a statement on Tuesday, said there was no truth to suggestions that the military and secret police had either fabricated reports of the operation or withdrawn weapons from forest guards.

He confirmed that NAF had indeed issued a statement on Monday, September 29, announcing an airstrike on terrorist positions between Kogi and Kwara states. According to him, the authenticity of the statement is not in doubt as it was officially released by the NAF and later confirmed by its spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

“There are pictures from the DSS showing its heavy involvement in the joint operation, which led to the elimination of several criminals,” Ajakaye stated.

He urged residents to avoid unnecessary disputes over the channels through which the information was released or the photographs used in accompanying reports, stressing that the most important fact was that the operation took place.

“The government gains nothing by announcing an operation that never happened. What matters is that our security agencies engaged the enemy and recorded successes,” he said.

On the allegation that the DSS withdrew weapons from forest guards, the governor’s aide said both the leadership of the guards and the DSS had denied the claim. He described the viral video making the rounds as false and demoralising.

While commiserating with families affected by recent attacks, Ajakaye called on the public to remain calm, avoid divisive narratives, and unite against criminal elements threatening peace in the region.
