Breaking: Kwankwaso, Kano Governor Abba Move to Rejoin APC

In a dramatic political twist, the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has written to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), formally expressing his desire to return to the ruling party.

The former governor of Kano State disclosed in the letter that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is also prepared to rejoin the APC alongside him.

Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP, has remained one of the most influential political figures in Northern Nigeria. His latest move signals a potential realignment that could reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections.

The development is particularly significant in Kano, Nigeria’s most populous state after Lagos, where Kwankwaso commands a formidable political structure known as the “Kwankwasiyya Movement.” The decision by both Kwankwaso and Governor Abba to return to the APC may strengthen the party’s hold on Kano, while also bolstering its national outlook.

Though details of the APC leadership’s response to the letter are yet to emerge, political watchers say the move could have far-reaching implications for opposition politics, especially for the NNPP, which rose to prominence in 2023 on the back of Kwankwaso’s influence.

The APC is expected to deliberate on the request in the coming days.
