Kogi poised to receive significant boost in funding education and healthcare

Kogi State is poised to receive a significant boost in funding for education and healthcare, courtesy of a $500 million World Bank grant.

This enhanced funding, secured under the HOPE-GOV initiative, aims to improve access to quality basic education and primary healthcare services in the state.

According to Honourable Asiwaju Idris, Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, this funding will be instrumental in strengthening the state’s education and healthcare sectors.

He emphasized that these two sectors are crucial for building a productive, innovative, and resilient society.

The HOPE-GOV initiative will also focus on enhancing fiscal transparency, improving budget credibility, and ensuring accountability in the use of funds.

This will increase the availability and effectiveness of financing for education and healthcare, ultimately leading to better recruitment and performance of teachers and healthcare workers.

The state government has already demonstrated its commitment to education, allocating over ₦1.2 billion for external examination fees of pupils and students in primary and secondary schools.

The healthcare sector is also expected to benefit significantly from the HOPE-GOV initiative, with plans to revolutionize healthcare service delivery and promote access to essential healthcare services.
