Kano SSG’s sister joins APC, pledges to bring her brother on board
The sister of Kano State’s Secretary to the Government (SSG), Hajiya Lami, has decamped from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lami, a prominent woman mobilizer in Kano State, made the announcement at the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, in Abuja.
She stated her intention to convince her brother to also join the APC.
Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity Ismail Mudashir confirmed this development in a press statement on Thursday.
Dr. Baffa Bichi, who previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, was appointed as SSG by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on May 30, 2023.
His sister’s decampment to the APC signals a potential shift in Kano’s political landscape, with Lami expressing confidence that her brother will follow suit.
“Today, alongside my friends and political associates from Kano State, we have left the NNPP to join the APC and work with like-minded individuals to address the challenges facing our state and nation. I will soon bring my brother, Baffa Bichi, to the APC,” Lami stated.
Senator Barau, who had previously defeated Baffa in the 2023 Kano North Senatorial District election, warmly welcomed Lami and her associates to the APC.
He assured them that the party would treat all members fairly and strive to meet their expectations, praising President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to put Nigeria on the path to progress.
Earlier this week, hundreds of NNPP members from Shanono Local Government Area, under five Kwankwasiyya groups, also decamped to the APC, further bolstering the party’s strength in Kano.
The decampments were facilitated by APC Shanono Chairman, Alhaji Isiya Sheme, and local caucus leader Alhaji Adamu Saidu, who accompanied the groups to Senator Barau’s office at the National Assembly.
