Kalu Accepts Defeat, Congratulates Ebisike

Hon Mascot Uzor Kalu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in just concluded bye-election has accepted defeat in the Saturday’s Aba South/Aba South federal Constituency and congratulated the winner of the bye-election and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Chimaobi Ebisike.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the early hours of Sunday morning declared Ebisike as the winner of poll.

The INEC Returning Officer, Prof Philip Obanta stated that the PDP candidate polled a total of 10,522 to beat Mascot Uzor Kalu to the second position.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), candidate, Chief Destiny Akaraka, he said, garnered 1,584 votes to place third.

In a statement he issued on Sunday morning, Kalu urged his supporters to accept the outcome of poll “in good faith”, even as he appreciated them for making the party stronger.

“The level of thuggery, violence and rigging that occurred in the election calls for deeper review of the electoral laws.

“Every country is peculiar to its people, all Nigerians should support the electoral law that it being amended as it will assist us in getting our democracy strengthened”, he added.

Mascot, whose elder brother is the Senator representing Abia North disclosed that the party will not be going to court to challenge the bye-election, saying that “the reason is to allow the declared winner to concentrate and provide good representation to the good people of Aba”.
