Just In: Ruth Otabor, Sister of Ex-BBNaija Star Phyna, Dies After Dangote Truck Accident
Ruth Otabor, the sister of former Big Brother Naija housemate Phyna (real name Josephine Otabor), has passed away following complications from a road accident involving a Dangote Cement truck.
Her death was formally announced by the family’s legal representatives, Eko Solicitors and Advocates, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Ruth had been struck by the truck in Edo State on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, where she had recently completed her studies.
Initially surviving the impact, Ruth underwent the amputation of one leg. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she died at approximately 6:30 a.m. on August 31.
The statement, which was shared publicly by Phyna on her social media page, reads in part:
“We remain Solicitors to Ruth Otabor, Josephine Otabor (popularly known as Phyna), and the Otabor Family, and we have their instruction to inform the public.
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their beloved Daughter, Sister, and Mother. The family is currently grieving and requests privacy during this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
The announcement was signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh on behalf of Eko Solicitors and Advocates.
