Just In: Rivers Assembly begins impeachment process against Governor Fubara, Deputy

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

The process began on Thursday during plenary, according to a live broadcast monitored on Channels Television.

Presiding over the session, the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, oversaw the reading of a notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against the governor. The notice was presented by the Majority Leader, Major Jack.

A total of 26 lawmakers endorsed the notice, citing alleged violations of the Nigerian Constitution.

Similarly, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor, Ngozi Oduh.

Following the presentations, Speaker Amaewhule announced that the notice of gross misconduct would be formally served on the governor within the next seven days.
