Just in: NLC begins grand finale protest rally in Abuja

As Nigerian workers are converging on the Unity Fountain in Abuja, for a protest rally organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, protest rally on the lingering crisis in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
The President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, had given the federal government two weeks ultimatum to address the issue with the education.
Naijablitznews.com recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other trade unions in the education sector have been on strike for more than five months for the alleged failure of the federal government to keep to agreements entered with the unions.
The demands of the striking workers include issues bordering on funding of universities, salaries, and earned allowances of lecturers, among others.
Workers started gathering the Unity Fountain at 7:30 a.m.
According to the General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, “Given the significance of this rally, affiliates are directed to mobilise in large numbers.”
Naijablitznews.com reports that the solidarity protests started nationwide on Tuesday across all states of the federation, while that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be on Wednesday.
