Just In: Nigeria’s merchandise trade hits N38.9 trn in Q3 2025
Nigeria’s total merchandise trade surged to N38.9 trillion in the third quarter of 2025, marking a significant expansion in the nation’s trade activities.
According to newly released official figures, the Q3 2025 trade value represents an 8.71% increase compared to the N35.8 trillion recorded in the same period of 2024. It also reflects a 2.36% rise from the N38.04 trillion posted in the second quarter of 2025.
The latest data shows that exports remained the major driver of trade performance, totaling N22.8 trillion, while imports stood at N16.12 trillion.
With exports exceeding imports, Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of N6.69 trillion, indicating continued momentum in the country’s external sector and improved global demand for Nigerian goods.
Economists say the positive trade balance could provide fiscal breathing space for the government, strengthen the naira in the medium term, and boost investor confidence if sustained.
More details are expected as analysts continue to review the implications of the latest trade figures on Nigeria’s broader economic outlook.
