Just In: Fayose fires fresh salvos at Obasanjo just two days after public reconciliation

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reignited his long-standing feud with former President Olusegun Obasanjo—barely 48 hours after both men appeared to mend fences at Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos.

During the event on Saturday, Obasanjo had publicly forgiven Fayose for years of political attacks, recounting how the former governor sent various emissaries, including ex-Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka, to facilitate their reconciliation. The former president also narrated humorous yet pointed exchanges, including telling Fayose’s wife that the couple had not acted like Omoluabi (persons of good character), before eventually agreeing to attend the birthday celebration.

Obasanjo acknowledged Fayose’s political contributions and urged him to reconcile with others he may have offended. Throughout Obasanjo’s speech, Fayose remained calm and appeared receptive.

However, calm quickly gave way to renewed conflict. According to a statement released in Abeokuta by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Fayose sent a strongly worded ‘Thank You’ message to Obasanjo, hurling harsh insults and accusing the former president of exhibiting “irresponsible comments” and “loss of sanity.” He further demanded the return of money he claimed Obasanjo had acknowledged receiving.

Obasanjo responded briefly but pointedly, saying the message “revealed who and what” Fayose truly is. He added that the money in question had been returned unopened through the same intermediary who delivered it.

The unexpected escalation has reignited public attention on the duo’s famously turbulent political relationship, raising new questions about whether reconciliation between them is truly possible.
