Jigawa Pension Board Pays N1.4bn to 564 Retirees
The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has disbursed more than N1.4 billion as retirement and death benefits to 564 beneficiaries across the state.
Speaking at the Pension House ahead of the disbursement, the State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, described Jigawa’s pension administration as one of the best models in Nigeria, noting that it has continued to attract interest and study visits from other states.
He reiterated the commitment of Governor Malam Umar Namadi to the welfare of civil servants and retirees, stressing that the administration has made pension reform and prompt payment of entitlements a top priority. According to him, since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Namadi has injected over N11 billion into the pension scheme to strengthen and sustain its operations.
The Accountant General added that the board remains up to date in settling retirees’ entitlements, including benefits due to officers who died while in active service. He also disclosed that Jigawa State has implemented the new national minimum wage of N70,000, placing its salary structure among the most competitive in the country.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, said a total sum of N1,429,201,208.92 would be paid to the 564 beneficiaries, covering retirement benefits, death benefits and outstanding death pension balances.
He explained that N1,191,804,237.17 would be disbursed to 485 retirees who exited active service, while N226,547,197.84 would go to the families of 71 deceased civil servants. An additional N10,849,773.91 will be paid to the families of eight pensioners as death pension balances.
Dr. Aminu reaffirmed the board’s commitment to timely payment of entitlements, noting that monthly pensions are consistently paid on the first day of every month. He emphasized that the state government remains focused on improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a secure and dignified life for retirees after service.
