Iyare wins Prof. Eregie and Jemide Birthday/July Monthly Mug

Osaze Iyare was at his best on over the weekend as he emerged winner at the Prof. Charles Eregie and Toju Jemide Birthday/July Monthly Mug held at the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS),Benin City.
At the end of the stableford tournament organised by the club, Iyare scored 36 points to win the men’s category after beating Victor Oriasotie (36pts) on count back to runner-up, while Ben Oghumah placed second runner-up with 32 points.
Similarly, ex-lady captain, Princess Nkiruka Awiaka continued her dominance in the ladies category with 36 points thus beat another ex+lady captain, Suwadetu Mahmud (34 points) to second place, just as lady captain, Princess Habiibah Oyeghe Oyarekhua settled for third position with 28 points.
The veteran men’s category was keenly contested, but it was Wilco Otabor that eventually won the day after posting 29 points, a point ahead of General Asemota (28points) while Monday Ikhureigbe (27 points) placed third. John Ogbeide 18 points earned him the super veteran category victory.
Delivering his victory speech, Iyare revealed how happy he was for winning the event, being the second to have won in the past two years. He recalled that he was beaten at the last year edition, which made him to make up his mind to win this year edition.
Meanwhile, encomiums were showered on the celebrant for his exemplary quality and effort in sustaining the July edition of the monthly for over seventeen years, as a way to celebrate his birthday.
The likes of Dr. Charles Ajayi, former captain of the club; Dr. Emmanuel Ighodaro, the competition/handicap secretary; Abiodun Jimoh, sports journalist, and vice captain, Mayer Ologbosere and many others used the occasion to amplify the quality that the Professor is endowed with.
In his admonition, the elated Prof. Eregie however appreciated Almighty God for sparing his life and his birthday mate, Toju Jemide till the day. Also, he thanked all those who made it to play the tournament despite the weather condition.
“I am humble and appreciate the club management for given the right to host the tournament. I promise that next year edition will be better than this year,” he said.
