INEC Releases Detailed Timetable for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the full timetable for the 2027 General Elections, outlining key dates for party primaries, submission of candidates, campaigns, and the conduct of polls across the country.

According to the schedule released by the electoral body, political parties are to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026. This period will allow parties to nominate candidates for various elective positions ahead of the general elections.

INEC also fixed October 1 to October 31, 2026, as the window for political parties to submit their lists of nominated candidates. The final list of candidates is expected to be published on November 15, 2026.

Campaign activities for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will officially commence on November 18, 2026, and end on February 19, 2027. Meanwhile, campaigns for Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will begin on December 15, 2026, and conclude on March 5, 2027.

The Presidential and National Assembly elections have been scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 20, 2027. Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will follow two weeks later on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

INEC urged political parties and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the timetable to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
