Imo S/Court Verdict: Ogun PDP Condemns, Calls FG To Review It Through Another Judicial Panel

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unequivocally condemned the Supreme Court judgment that removed duly elected Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as Governor of Imo State, barely eight months in office.
The Apex Court last week had decalred Senator Hope Uzodinma of All Progressives Congres (APC), who initially placed fourth at the March 9th,2019 governorship election in the state as authentic winner, the judgment which they described as daylight robbery of people’s mandates.
The aggrieved PDP members numbering over a thousand came across all the three senatorial districts of the state specifically defied the sunny afternoon on Sunday to express their dismay, and to condemn the judgment in Abeokuta.
The protesters led by its state Chairman, Sikirulai Ogundele, hereby demanded that Federal Government should set up another judicial panel to review that judgment and probably reverse it, so as to restore the mandate of the Imolites who voted massively for Hon. Ihedioha at the March 9th, 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.
Also, they were seeing carrying placards with an inscriptions such as: Ogun PDP says no to injustice; say no to miscarriage of justice; Imo judgment is a fraud; stop robbing PDP of their mandate; stop influencing the judiciary; judiciary should be objective, as well as placards that displayed the results of the election, and many more to demand for justice.
Speaking to journalists, the embittered chairman, Ogundele frantically expressed that they do not have confidence in the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mohammed Tanko. “Because, we believe that he has been biased, compromised and I don’t want to hide words, judicial system in this country is turning to something else.”
He narrated: “We, the entire credible and upright members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, we are groused over misleading, miscarriage and misuse of judicial system, based on some of the judgments given by the Supreme Court.
“We are groused in the sense that Imo State that have been won by PDP candidate, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha some days after the judicial process from the lowest court gave judgment to the declaration of INEC. The Appeal Court also gave the same judgment in favour of the declaration of PDP, Hon. Ihedioha as governor of the state.
“Getting to Supreme Court last week, we got a disappointed judgment that is cruel, unethical and undemocratic. We saw it to be a threat to the nascent democracy of this country. And we are reacting and unequivocally condemning that judgment that is unacceptable.
“Our stand is that the Federal Government should call the judicial panel to look into that case of Imo State and give us the correct judgment. How can somebody that placed fourth will now become first. How can we have that people that were being accredited to be more than the votes allocated to the APC.
“So many factors have come up, but just quite unfortunate that the elders in our judicial systems are turning things upside down. They have forgotten that the courts of law have been the home of innocent citizens.”
Furthermore, the PDP boss said: “Our demand is they should review that judgment and probably reverse it through another judicial panel. We don’t have confidence in the leadership of CJN Mohammed Tanko, because we believe he has been biased, compromised and I don’t want to hide words, judicial system of this country is turning to something else.
“It is a complete threat to this nascent democracy and because if things are going this way, we cannot get correct judgment from our courts again, and it is bad.
“We are here to condemn that judgment unequivocally, we are here to appeal before the federal government of Nigeria to go back or to direct the judicial system to review that judgment and correct it and come up with the real judgment.”
Similarly, Ogundele stressed: “And again, and again, we are reacting to what happened in Imo State, now that we still have four states or more to be decided, we still have Benue, Sokoto, Kano, and Bauchi.
“We are appealing to federal government to let justice prevail, to let democracy that is just growing in Nigeria to thrive, that is our grouse, and our prayers. We look forward to having positive response from them.”
