IGP Orders CPs To Commence Massive Raid Of Criminal Hideouts Nationwide
The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered all Commissioners of Police and their supervising Assistant Inspectors General to commence a massive raid of criminal hideouts nationwide to bring an end to crime.
The order which was disclosed in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Dcp Jimoh Moshood, on Sunday, follows the killing of seven policemen by armed men in Abuja.
The officers were reportedly gunned down on Monday at Galadimawa Junction, just off the international airport road in Abuja.
While the reason for the attack has remained sketchy, it was gathered that the gunmen who were in a vehicle opened fire on the police officers and zoomed off.
Subsequently, the IGP set-up a team of specialised crack team comprising of investigation detectives, police scene of crime experts and technical intelligence officers to investigate the killing.
The statement on Sunday noted that the team has so far arrested five suspects.
It, however, emphasised the need to beef-up security throughout the country, adding that attention will particularly be given to places of worship, schools, markets, recreation venues and other public spaces, to forestall any unfortunate incidents.
“The Inspector General of Police promptly on the 3rd July, 2018 set-up a team of Specialized Crack Investigation Detectives, Police Scene of Crime Experts and Technical Intelligence Unit of the Force to investigate the ambush attack and killing of seven (7) Policemen, the investigation team have so far arrested five (5) suspects connected to the killings, however, there is the need to beef-up security throughout the country to enhance and ensure adequate security and protection of lives and properties across the Nation.
“To this end, the Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal commands and Commissioners of Police in State Commands are under strict instruction of the IGP to re-gird their crime prevention and control strategies, and carry out massive deployment of Police personnel and logistics to strengthen security in their AOR and deal decisively with suspected criminal element,” the statement read.
The Force also urged members of the public to cooperate with the Police personnel deployed to their localities.
