IGP arrives in Benue, deploys more officers to curb killings

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in Benue State on Monday, June 16, 2025, in response to the recent wave of deadly attacks that claimed numerous lives and displaced hundreds.

His visit comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to restore peace and security in the state. The president, through a statement issued by his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, ordered intelligence and security chiefs to intensify operations aimed at ending the violence in the North-Central region.

President Tinubu condemned the attacks, describing the bloodshed as “inhuman and anti-progress.” He also urged political and community leaders in affected areas to avoid inciting remarks that could further escalate tensions.
