Ife clash: Court orders monarch, pastor, others remanded in prison

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, on Friday ordered that suspects arrested in connection with the Ile-Ife clash between Hausa and Yorubas remanded in prison.

The trial judge, Justice Kudirat Akano, who gave the order in her ruling said the suspect be remanded till the commencement of hearing on June 14.

Earlier, the prosecutor had filed an application for the suspects to be remanded in prison after they pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts of murder, armed robbery, arson and others leveled against them.

However, the defence counsel, Muritala Agboola objected to the application but Justice Akano overruled it.

Recall that the suspects were on April 26 arraigned before the Justice Akano-led court.

The accused were arrested over their alleged involvement in the clash betwee Hausa/Fulani people and their host community in Ile-Ife which claimed many lives and left many others injured.
