ICPC SEEKS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATIONS SUPPORT IN FIGHTING CORRUPTION

The Independent Corrupt Practice Commission,ICPC,on Monday‎ called on Community Development Associations,CDA’s to collaborate with the commission in fighting corruption and other social vices.
The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Abdulahi Bako stated this at one Day Public Seminar, on  the roles of Communities Development Association in fighting corruption at the grassroots level held in Abeokuta
‎Bako represented by  Chief Superintendent Head of National Anti – Corruption coalition ICPC,Sulaiman Jimoh ‎noted that  the fight against corruption cannot be won without the active involvement of community leaders.
He pointed out that, community leaders are bless with words of wisdom associated with the gospel truth,hence,the need to involve community  members,as well as the active participation of the general public, individually and collectively.
‘In the past years communality has been a strength of African people from time immemorial. Through communal efforts, association are formed with the view to promote the spirit of solidarity among the people but speedily develop the society and be each other gate keepers’,he said.
Similarly, the ICPC boss  said the commission was of the conviction that positive vigilance and a robust prevention regime are important pathway to a success and cost efficient of anti corruption crusade.
“ICPC, place a high premium on preventing  corruption through systems review and the establishment of anti corruption and Transparency Monitoring Units(ACTC) in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies’,he stated.
He also charge the community leadership of the associations on need to intervenes and settled quarrels among members before they get out of hand.
The commission equally   advised parents and guardians to properly monitor their children and wards.
The   coordinator,  Organization of Peoples Voice and member national anti corruption coalition, Mr Idris Abu, said the major reason the commission was involving the coalition is to build a strategic network and consensus,as well as direction for a potent fight against corruption in Nigeria.
“Nigerias must come together to overcome the corruption problem of greed and avarice’,Abu emphasised.
