IBB Denies Ownership Of Niger Mine Where 37 Died, Threatens Legal Action Against Publishers
Former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), has denied ownership of the mining site in Niger State where 37 suspected illegal miners reportedly died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Babangida, popularly known as IBB, described reports linking him to the ownership of the mine as false and misleading.

He also threatened legal action against publishers responsible for circulating the allegation, demanding that they retract the reports and publish corrections.

The denial followed reports alleging that the mining operation was located within or connected to property belonging to the former military ruler.

Babangida said he had no ownership interest in the mining site and urged members of the public to disregard claims associating him with the facility.

The controversy comes amid growing concerns over the deaths of the 37 suspected illegal miners, who reportedly died in NSCDC custody in Minna, Niger State.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a full and transparent investigation into the deaths, stressing that the government would not tolerate mass deaths arising from official negligence.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths and the identities and status of those responsible remain subject to investigation.
