I stopped being a member of APC after 2019 presidential election – Lauretta Onochie clarifies
Lauretta Onochie has appeared before the Senate panel on INEC where she clarified that she was once a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, but that she stopped being a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC after the presidential election in 2019.
Onochie has been serving as President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aide.
She is one of the nominees for appointment as commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Senate commenced the screening on Thursday after much uproar over her nomination.
The leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party kicked against her nomination, saying it was unconstitutional as she is a card-carrying member of the APC.
But Lauretta Onochie has denied before the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Onochie admitted to swearing an oath at an Abuja Federal High Court that she was a member of the APC.
She nevertheless said she stopped being a member of the party immediately after the 2019 elections.
Onochie further told the panel that Mrs May Agbamuche, a serving INEC National Commissioner from Delta State, is actually representing Cross River on the board of the commision.
