I spent N10billion to feed 252, 000 students

The outgoing governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, has disclosed that his administration spent the sum of N10bn to feed 252,000 students in primary 1-4 under the Osun school feeding programme known as OMEALS.

Speaking at a public presentation of some documents on the social protection policies of his administration, Aregbesola stated that more than 250 million plates of food were served to 252,000 pupils daily at the cost of N70 per plate and that this cost the state government the sum of N10 billion, Daily Trust reports.

The governor said about 3,007 community caterers who were contracted to prepare the food for the pupils were empowered through the scheme.

In his contribution, Mohamed Malick Fall, the UNICEF representative in Nigeria, said the Osun state has a long-standing record of social development.
