How Operatives of FID-IRT Free Kidnapped Mother, Children After Gun Battle in Ibadan

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of a woman, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the police, the victims regained their freedom on Saturday evening following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).

Mrs. Adegoke and her sons were reportedly kidnapped on June 3, 2026, while she was driving the children to school in Ibadan. Security operatives subsequently launched an intensive intelligence-led operation involving surveillance and tracking of the kidnappers’ movements.

The police said the rescue mission culminated in a confrontation between the suspects and FID-IRT operatives. During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while security personnel recovered two rifles from the scene.

The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed under medical care and support.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the operation, praising their professionalism, courage, and dedication in securing the safe release of the hostages.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping gang who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries.

The police assured Nigerians that ongoing operations are aimed at tracking down all those connected to the abduction and bringing them to justice, while reaffirming their commitment to tackling violent crime and safeguarding lives and property across the country.
