House rejects Minority Caucus’ ad-hoc panel on Tax Laws
The House of Representatives has distanced itself from an ad-hoc committee set up by the Minority Caucus to probe alleged changes in sections of the newly passed tax laws.
In a statement, the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, clarified that the power to constitute an ad-hoc committee for oversight purposes lies exclusively with the Speaker and the House acting in plenary.
He stressed that any investigation initiated by the Minority Caucus does not have the backing of the institution and is inconsistent with the established parliamentary procedures as outlined in the House Standing Orders.
The House further assured that a duly constituted bipartisan ad-hoc committee, set up before the recess to examine the alleged alterations in the tax laws, would conduct a comprehensive investigation and present its findings to the House in plenary.
