House of Representatives Clarifies Reports on Deceased Individual Found Near National Assembly Complex

The House of Representatives has addressed recent reports regarding the discovery of a deceased individual in a vehicle parked in the vicinity of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday, House Spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., explained that the clarification was based on the official account provided by the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently leading the investigation into the matter.

According to information from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) assigned to the National Assembly Division, the deceased—believed to be a laborer working at a construction site within the complex—was discovered at approximately 9:00 a.m. inside a red Peugeot 406 with the registration number BWR-577 BF.

The vehicle had been parked outside the Annexe Building Gate, near the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The body, found in a sleeping posture on the back seat, was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition.

The remains have been moved to a mortuary, and efforts are ongoing to determine the deceased’s identity and notify the next of kin, Rotimi added, citing the police report.

He further stated that the National Assembly is working closely with relevant security and emergency response agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out.

Rotimi commended the prompt response of the police and reaffirmed the House’s commitment to staying engaged as developments unfold.

“On behalf of the House of Representatives, we extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, once identified,” he said. “We assure Nigerians that updates will be shared in a transparent manner as the investigation progresses.”
