Hoodlums armed with AK-47 rifles invade community abduct scores of residents
50 persons have been kidnapped by bandits in the early hour of Thursday, in Bassa community in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
The bandits, about 45 in numbers and armed with AK-47 stormed the community on motorcycles
The villagers, getting ready for the day was greeted with sporadic gunshots by the bandits, which caused them to flee into a nearby bush for safety.
Confirming the attack, the co-convener Concerned Shiroro Youths, Sani Abubakar Kokki, lamented the continuous abduction of their people by bandits, adding that the people are just farmers and traders.
However, he noted that the numbers of people abducted hasn’t been ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
He disclosed that on Tuesday, some other communities in Bassa/Kokki were attacked with many losses recorded.
He appealed to the Niger state government to come to their rescue as they are in dire need of help, adding that people, due to fear of been killed, are leaving the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abiodun Wasiu, when contacted by newsmen, said he will confirm the incident from other Police formation.
