Tinubu Urges Traditional Rulers to Champion Security, Unity at Falae’s Book Launch

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s traditional rulers to take a more active role in tackling insecurity and fostering national unity across communities.

The President said royal fathers must go beyond ceremonial duties and serve as stabilising forces within their domains, using their influence to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen social cohesion.

Tinubu made the call on Thursday in Lagos at the launch of the autobiography of Samuel Oluyemisi Olu Falae, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the President, traditional rulers must rise to current challenges by acting as frontline agents of peacebuilding and grassroots stability.

“Peace and security are not solely the responsibility of government; they are collective duties,” Tinubu stated, urging monarchs to encourage dialogue, discourage violence, and strengthen unity within their communities.

He described the event as more than a ceremonial gathering, noting that it reflected leadership, service, and national values exemplified by Oba Falae.

Tinubu praised Falae as a bridge between tradition and modern governance, highlighting his contributions to public service, economic management, and cultural leadership. He noted that Falae’s career—from serving as finance minister to his role as the Olu-Abo of Ilu-Abo in Ondo State—demonstrates a rare blend of technocratic expertise and traditional authority.

The President also acknowledged Falae’s leadership within Afenifere, where he has served as chairman of its National Executive Committee since 2025.

Emphasising the importance of traditional institutions, Tinubu said they remain vital to governance, especially amid growing security concerns and social divisions.

“Our royal fathers are the closest link between government and the grassroots. Your palaces must remain centres of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and moral guidance,” he said.

Tinubu further assured that his administration would continue to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions to enhance security, social harmony, and grassroots development.

He described Falae’s autobiography as both a personal account and a reflection of Nigeria’s journey, noting that it offers valuable lessons in perseverance, patriotism, and integrity for younger generations.

The President congratulated the monarch on the publication and expressed hope that his legacy would inspire future leaders.
