GROUP PARTICIPANTS SAYS KOGI PUBLIC HOLIDAY ON BUHARI’S RETURN IS HIGH LEVEL OF SYCOPHANCY
The Monday public holiday declared by Kogi State Government in honour of President Muhammed Buhari over his return to country has received condemnation by cross section of Nigerians.
This was contained in reactions of some participants on penpushing,a social media platform, declaring the action of the governor,Yahya Bello as high level of sycophancy, which was uncalled for.
The participants while thanking God for Buhari, explained that, they wish the President the very best and sound health to run the country, but posited that the holiday has no relevance to health of President and governance
It would be recalled that, Director-General, media and publicity to the state governor, Kingsley Fanwo, said in a statement that the public holiday was to enable the people to give thanks to God for returning Mr. Buhari in sound health and sound mind.
He said that decision was also in line with the support the people of the state had been giving to Buhari in his efforts at correcting the ills of the past and putting the nation on sound economic footing.
“We urge Kogites to also use the occasion of the public holiday to pray for Mr. President as he resumes his responsibilities of repositioning Nigeria,” the statement said.
However, many contributors on the platform posited that, such declaration was baseless and has no value to governance, but a generational derailment
In his reaction, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji wrote, ‘My view, I think calling for public holiday on the return of President is uncalled for,and I think it is high level of sycophancy’
Similarly, a clergyman, who is also a member of the platform, Apostle Olusesi Obateye said, the action of the governor was colossal disapooointment
‘ You called Bello’s action sycophancy?…… I call it generational derailment. I had thought Bello would do better to justify our call for inclusion of more youth in the leadership of this country, but watching him since becoming Governor of Kogi State, I am just concluding he is a colossal disappointment’
Also reacting Siji Oyesile said, ‘You have just stated the truth and this Kogi governor is a sad commentary on the much clamour for the youth to be given a chance to rule. Am sorry to say that he is a complete disappointment’.
Another participant, Bimbo Alagbe comically stated that, maybe the public holiday was introduced to enable residents of the state to listen to president live broadcast, stressing that the governor was a big hypocrite.
” …So that they can have time to listen to the President’s broadcast? The governor is just a big hypocrite… What has the holiday declared got to achieve? Is the President coming to the state or the state workers going to meet the President,?’,he wrote
In her own submission, a broadcast journalist and member of penpushing platform, Olaitan Bakare simply reacted thus,’These people just always find a way to wear your wildest thoughts out!’
