GROUP LAMENTS DEATH OF VETERAN JOURNALIST FROM ARMED ROBBERS

The demise of former Managing Director of Daily Times Newspapers,Onukaba Adinoyi Ojo in the hand of armed robbers has continued to attract lamentation from Nigerians,with a call for effective probe
The lamentation was contained in a social media known as penpushing platform,where participants also tasked security agencies to uncover the bandits and brought them to book.
A former Chairperson, Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, Funke Fadugba said it was sad to loose such an intellectual and called for need by the nation security to be proactive in dealing with the case.
‘ Very sad to loose an intellectual like him to bandits. This calls to question our security as a nation. RIP ONUKABA ADINOYI OJO’,she wrote
Also a veteran broadcast journalist, Gbenga Gbesan,wrote,’the death and circumstances are both sad and regrettable. May his soul rest in peace’.
A traditional ruler of Akinale community in Ogun State,Oba Olufemi Ogunleye said the demise of Onukaba was unfortunate and sad.
‘Sad to learn of Adinoyi’s unfortunate death. I saw him yesterday after I exchanged compliments with President Jonathan, I waved at him waiting for a wonderful embrace outside the church’,Ogunleye wrote.
‘DR. ONUKABA was a great and trusted reporter with the Guardian Newspapers at the airport, directly involving seeing me on daily basis when I was Head of Public Relations in the defunct Nigeria Airways. When he joined OBJ as Media Adviser in the presidency, he was a fantastic liasion man between his principal and the world’.
‘ I can’t remember how many times, I shared time with him at his Sheraton Hotel, Abuja before he was relocated to serve VP Atiku. He was again sent to Daily Times as the MD. He had such a chequered career. It’s sad to loose a dynamic colleague this way. May his soul rest in peace’
In his submission, another veteran journalist, Dimeji Awoyemi lamented, ‘another pen dropped. Not for want of ink or lack of paper but a society breeding force against values. May his soul rest in peace’.
A journalist and publisher of a Canada based online newspapers, Gatewaymail, Femi Shodunke wrote , ‘in a better society, the dastardly death of Onukaba would have been avoided. But his death went the ways of several previous ones. We’ll just lament and the same situation continues, until another similar recurrence.
‘How many would be lucky like “us”, who thrice ‘experienced Onukaba’s treatment at home and on the road, but escaped death by the whiskers? I’m really sad.
Is my country still a “human and humane” country?
I’m still ruminating on the answers!’,Shodunke said
