This advise was given on Sunday by the Coalition for Peaceful Election (COPE) in a press release signed by its convener, Comrade Popoola Ajayi and made available to journalists on the preparedness for the coming election, stressing that the people must be allowed to exercise their franchise in an atmosphere devoid of fear and intimidation.
The COPE convener equally disclosed that the group in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, like the National Orientation Agency (NOA) will commence series of activities in the state soon geared towards peaceful election, while appealing that political parties must desist from hate speech during campaign.
According to COPE “We want to advise the people of Osun state to see the forthcoming election as a means of electing a governor among those already jostling to take over from the incumbent, thus there is need to preach peace before, during and after the election. The residents, stakeholders and especially politicians must ensure the process leading to the election is peaceful, devoid of rancour and violence”.
Continuing “we shall soon embark on our peaceful campaign with relevant stakeholders in the state like the National Orientation Agency, civil society groups and others, to ensure the election is devoid of violence and hate speech.
The group equally commended the leadership of INEC for its early preparation and promised to work with it to ensure success of the process.
