Ogun State Governor,Senator Ibikunle Amosun has gave reason why he established Vigilante Service, saying it was done to strengthen crime prevention.
He made this known‎ at the closing ceremony of a “Sensitization Course on Grassroot Operation” for members of the VSO at the NSCDC’s College of Security Management, Abeokuta.
The governor represented by his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko noted that the synergy between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) and the Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO) would further strengthen crime prevention and combating effort in the state.
Amosun also noted that his administration takes the issues of security of lives and properties seriously, emphasising  this as what informed why the VSO was established in 2011 to complement the efforts of other security agencies and make the state safe for living and businesses.
In her own remark, Provost of the College, Commandant   Oluwasefunmi Awosusi, urged the participants to put to practice all that have been imparted into them during the trainings.
She said the training was meant to equip the VSO officers with the skills required to enhance  efficiency in the discharge of their
duty as well as work in  partnership with the NSCDC Operatives to “curb the menace of cultism, child abuse, kidnapping, vandalism, drugs abuse and other vice” in Ogun communities.
Speaking with journalists at the occasion, the Assistant Commandant General, NSCDC, Southwest and Lagos, Poopola Waheed, hailed the initiative, saying the synergy between NSCDC, VSO and among other sister agencies would help secure Ogun and make  residents sleep with two eyes closed.
