By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA

No fewer than 500 youths in Ogun State have benefited from the face shields donated by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Angel Adelaja-Kuye on Wednesday.

Adelaja-Kuye, when presenting the face shields to the youths in Abeokuta remarked that the gesture was part of her efforts to prevent youths from contacting the virus as well as part of her efforts to support the state government to fight coronavirus pandemic.

She revealed to have helped in empowering some women in the state to produce the face shields instead of importing them from China.

She said, ”I am donating these face shields to 500 youths in the state so as to support the state government in fighting this deadly virus. We can not leave all to government alone.

“That is why as an appointee of an amiable Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, I decided to donate these face shields as an added level of protecting the people from coronavirus, when they use their face masks, they can also make use of face shields.

“We understand that our people come first and they are trying to face their livelihood at this trying period. We saw all these are being imported from China, but I asked that why can’t we find a way to produce these in Ogun state.

“So, we gathered women and youths together in their respective homes and they are actually producing these face shields. When they produce a set number of face shields they gave out to the public. Today I am donating on behalf of the women and youth in my program and I actually encouraged more to join this initiative.

”We are donating 500 to the youth and we have donated to the state government and directly to some communities, and we have planned to do more to ensure people are protected. I am advising people to continue to wear their face masks and use theirs face shield as an added protection from coronavirus.”

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Sports, Comrade Lamide Lawal lauded the efforts of Dr. Adelaja-Kuye, saying that it is a welcomed development in the state.

He also called on the youths to take the pandemic serious and to take necessary precautions outlined by the government. “The government is doing all its possible best to curb this deadly virus. I urge the youths to keep to government’s directives.”

In the same vein, Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnics, Prince Hadi Sanni also commended Dr. Adelaja-Kuye for the kind gesture, saying that apart of from the donation, she has also brought food to the table of some the women who produced the face shields.

He said: “Dr. Adelaja-Kuye has done the best, she should be commended for that. Apart from the donation, she has also empowered some women to produce the face shields instead of importing them from China that shows that she is a pure and kind heart for the people of Ogun state. I pledged to join her in empowering some of these women and youth.
