Golfers shower encomiums, as AGC captain, Adeogun sign-off

It was celebration of a success as Tpl. Adewale Adeogun bowed out as Captain, Abeokuta Golf Club, after two years of meritorious administration, just as golfers showered encomiums for his selfless service.
Adeogun, moved by the turnout of golfers that participated at the keenly contested Captain Signing-Off Golf Tournament held at the club course, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta over the weekend was elated to have been honoured by golfing friends and associates that came across the country.
Dignitaries from golf and business class graced the sign-off golf tournament which signify the expiration of his tenure of the club captain is being organised by the club management in appreciation of his leadership quality.
Golfers from various golf clubs especially from Ibadan golf club; Tiger golf club, Ibadan; Ekiti golf club; Ilorin golf club; Sagamu golf club; Ikeja golf club, Ikoyi golf club, Lagos and host of others took part at the course, regarded as the best course in the whole of South West States.
In their separate appraisals, Adeogun tenure was described as rewarding and brought about massive development to the club. They added that his leadership quality was exemplary and straight forward all through, hereby worthy of emulation.
In his tribute, Colonel Ade Sunmonu (rtd.) described the captain as a committed golfer, a visionary leader who came, who saw and made difference.
Gboyega Omotoyinbo, Captain, Ekiti golf club said: “I came in contact with Wale Adeogun through Different Strokes tournament, and the chemistry worked from the word go. He is without a doubt the most attentive and knowledgeable man I have met, very compassionate and humble, great golfer and an outgoing individual. He represents the man I wish to be. Congratulations my brother.”
Also, Uwem Udoh on his part noted: “An easy going simple and humble gentleman. He is a worthy friend and a great ambassador of our great game and family. I have personally enjoyed the pleasure of playing with him in Abeokuta, yet remain grateful that he honored my invitation to Nigeria Cup 2019. We wish you many more years of great golf and long life in good health spiced with joy and peace.”
Muyiwa Laniyan stressed: “Tpl. Wale Adeogun, what can I say in few words about you, our paths crossed on the golfing circuit and I discovered your personality as an achiever, motivator and upright person. Your personal and financial efforts have placed Abeokuta goof club at an enviable position in the golfing world.
“Your zeal for excellence and your meticulous passion are some of your traits that make you stand out amongst the comity of Capo’s. The success in your family and business are exemplified by these wonderful traits. My dear Capo, the world awaits you as conquerer, you may take a gracious bow.”
Alhaji Tajudeen Saka wrote: “Capoo. Eku ipalemo. I am sorry that I won’t be able to play with you on Saturday. We have a previously scheduled family meeting that I must attend. I knew before I registered. My registration was a sign of respect for your leadership. May God continue to bless you.”
Meanwhile, Umar Bakare of DEJ, Abuja won the tournament with a net score of 69 ahead of ASK Makinde from Dolphin, Lagos who played 70 net while Dr. Lemboye Okuboye of AGC placed third having beaten on court back by Makinde, while A. Olopade of AGC settled for fourth with 71 net.
In the ladies best net, Kessy Agana of AGC emerged victorious with amazing 72 net to beat her compatriot, Adenike Jimoh whose net was 77, while A. Adenigba of Ekiti golf club clinched third with 78 net.
In the best gross category, A. Kadiri won the men’s event with 80 gross while F. Ajibade beat Rasheed Okunola on count back as they both played 81 gross respectively. Also, A. Adetunji emerged winner with 87 gross in the ladies category.
Gbolade Badejo from AGC with 72 net won the veteran men event. As C. Akande claimed the men super veteran cadre with 80 net.
Other winners were Bobagunwa Dimeji Isiaka and A. Adetunji as the longest drive winners in men’s and ladies event, while the duo of S. Akintoye and Dr. Farombi won the nearest the pin in men’s and ladies category.
Ismaila Adams won the club staff award with 84 gross just as Segun Ajayi won caddy category with 84 gross while U. Usman was runner-up.
