GBENGA DANIEL OFFICIALLY DECORATED AS SWAN NATIONAL PATRON

The former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel was on Thursday officially confirmed as National Patron of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN).

The inauguration of Daniel which concise with his 61st birthday was done by National President of SWAN, Honour Sirawo in company of other national and states officials of the association at the recipient palatial home in Sagamu town of Ogun State.

Sirawo in his speech, said the award was done on merit, stressing that it was a joint decision by the National Executive Council,(NEC)‎ of the association.

He said the decision was reached having considered his performances in sports sector as government of Ogun State, with number of laudable projects recorded by his administration.

The SWAN boss told the gathering which comprises eminent personalities across the country, that the recipient did not solicit for the award, but was bestowed on him for other leaders to emulate.

‘Ogd has done so much for the state in job creation, which include sports facilities available across the state which provides employment for the citizens, particularly the youths’,Sirawo said

‘This award is not solicited by the awardee. It was the decision of the INEC. On our own, unsolicited decided to appreciate him, so that others would emulate him’, he emphasised.

The President, used the ceremony to debunk speculations that the has being crisis within the association, declaring that Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) remained one united family.

In his remark, Gbenga Daniel pledged to give adequate support to the association, at all time and expressed appreciation for considering him fit for the award.

‘Let me thank you from the bottom of my heart on the award, and be rest assured you that, I will contribute positively to the growth and benefits of the association’, he said

He said he was proud to be associated with the association, and also encouraged them to be up and doing in promoting the nation sports positively across the globe.
