Four days to deadline INEC says political parties have not submitted names of candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says no political party has forwarded the list of their candidates for the 2019 elections.

Political parties had conducted primaries for elective positions, most before the deadline of October 7 elapsed.

But in a statement on Thursday, INEC said none of the parties has forwarded a list of successful candidates in the primaries.

It said the deadlines for doing so remains the same — October 18 for presidential and national assembly candidates, and November 2 for governorship and state house of assemblies candidates.

The statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, a member of the information and voter education committee, read: “The INEC held its usual weekly meeting today, 11 October, 2018 and noted that none of the 89 registered political parties that notified the Commission of their Intention to conduct their primaries has submitted the list of its sponsored candidates (Form CF002) and personal particulars (Form 001) to the centre designated by the Commission for the collection of the said documents.

“The deadlines for the submission of Forms CF001 and CF002 for the 2019 general elections remain: (i) Presidential and National Assembly: 18 October 2018 (ii) Governorship and State Assemblies: 2“ November. 2018”

Recently, the commission blocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) from submitting a governorship candidate in Zamfara after the party failed to conduct its primary election within the stipulated time.
