Former NPFL boss, Obaseki is dead

Chief Osayuki Obaseki, the pioneer Chairman of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), has been reported dead.

Chief Obaseki, whose exploit in the transformation of the Nigerian football league cannot be quantified was confirmed dead in the early hours of today after battling with undisclosed ailment for months.

The sad news of the football administrator was shared on whatsapp platform of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State chapter today.

According to a member of the association (names withheld), he narrated that the Benin chief has been sick since last year, but was recuperating from the sickness when he visited him at the period. “The news of his death was a shock to me.”

Meanwhile, no official pronouncement have been made by the family concerning the death of the chief as at the time of reporting.
