Former Katsina Governor Masari Links Gap Between Campaign Promises and Governance to Funding, Corruption

Aminu Bello Masari, former Governor of Katsina State, has attributed the disconnect between political campaign promises and actual government policies to limited financial resources.

Speaking on October 9 at the 9th National Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) in Lagos, Masari addressed the theme: “Reconciling Campaign Promises with Governance Realities: Challenges and Prospects.”

Masari, who recently concluded his tenure as governor, remarked that in many African countries, campaign promises often amount to nothing more than wishful thinking.

He further pointed to systemic corruption and unrealistic public expectations as additional obstacles to fulfilling those promises.

According to him, the effective execution of campaign pledges could play a critical role in strengthening democracy and restoring citizens’ trust in government.
