Former Buhari’s aide mocks Tinubu, accuses him of abandoning the late leader’s policies

A former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has stirred controversy after penning a letter to her late former boss, Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that President Bola Tinubu has “wiped away” the legacy of the former Nigerian leader.
In a strongly worded post shared on X, Onochie, who once served as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), accused President Tinubu of betraying Buhari and abandoning the policies that were meant to secure the country’s future.
“Dear Baba, the man we worked hard for to succeed you, believing he would continue serving Nigerians where you stopped, has let Nigerians down big time,” Onochie wrote.
She lamented what she described as the reversal of Buhari’s agricultural achievements, particularly his rice production drive, claiming that Nigerian markets are now flooded with “imported rotten food items.” According to her, many local rice farmers who thrived under Buhari’s administration have now been pushed out of business due to the reopening of borders to “substandard and adulterated food importation.”
Onochie further expressed disappointment that staple products such as Nigerian ginger have allegedly become scarce in local markets. She insisted that Buhari’s mantra of “grow what we eat and eat what we grow” had been abandoned, warning that the Tinubu administration was undermining Nigeria’s food security.
“Your mantra was that we must grow what we eat and eat what we grow. Rather than concentrate on building on the progress you made, they are obsessed with scrapping your legacy. We won’t let them,” she added.
In a scathing remark, Onochie mocked the administration’s agricultural policy by coining the term “Tinubugeria,” which she described as a distortion of Buhari’s food security vision.
She concluded her post by declaring that Nigerians never asked for the reforms currently being implemented by the Tinubu government.
Despite her criticisms, Onochie remains a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), raising eyebrows over the deepening cracks within the party.
