Flooding: Ogun To Enforce Environmental Laws

As part of measures to stop incessant flooding in Ogun State has disclosed readiness to enforce its environmental laws to stop human activities in and around flood planes.
Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Abiodun Abudu-Balogun stated this while inspecting damages done by the heavy rainfall in Abeokuta, yesterday.
The commissioner said that this was necessary to prevent people dumping refuse in canal and water channels which would in the long run lead to flooding as water channels were blocked due to this illegal human activities.
He therefore called on the people to stop dumping their waste into the canal or face the wrath of the law.
The commissioner who was with his Urban and Physical Development counterpart, TPL Tunji Odunlami for inspection of Ijeja Canal, Ijeun Titun, Gbangba, Odo-Eran, Isale Oja Kuto, Soroki and Ago-Ijesa water canals saw the devastations done by the flood.
He noted that Prince Dapo Abiodun administration would take further step to overcome the problems, saying that if not for the dredging done on these canals, the devastations would have been greater.
Tpl Odunlami, in his part hereby warned people living around the flood prone areas to move to safer grounds, adding that his ministry will look at the situation properly and any building seeing to be built along flooding areas will be pulled down for the well being of all.
