First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, meets beneficiaries of community-based drug rehabilitation program

Her Excellency, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, the First Lady of Kogi State, on Monday received beneficiaries of the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDR-P) from Okene Local Government Area during an interactive session held at the Government House.

The Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program, which commenced in July 2025, was initiated to provide grassroots-centered rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and reintegration for individuals recovering from substance abuse. After three months of intensive therapy and community engagement, all participants successfully tested negative for drug use, marking a major milestone in the program’s success.

Partners and donors present at the event expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress made, commending the program’s impact on individuals and communities alike.

In her remarks, the First Lady applauded the beneficiaries for their resilience, courage, and discipline throughout their rehabilitation journey. She urged them to remain steadfast, emphasizing that “sobriety is a lifelong commitment.”

Demonstrating her compassion and commitment to sustainable recovery, Hajia Sefinat Ododo announced several empowerment initiatives for the rehabilitated participants, including cash support, educational scholarships, job placements, internship opportunities, business grants, and relocation packages to aid their reintegration and economic independence.

She further revealed that plans are underway to expand the CBDR-P initiative to other Local Government Areas and senatorial districts across Kogi State, ensuring that more individuals battling substance abuse can access community-based recovery support.

The event reaffirmed the First Lady’s dedication to promoting mental health, social reintegration, and youth empowerment across the state.
