Breaking: Fintiri Dumps PDP for APC, Cites Development Agenda for Adamawa
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide address on Friday, the governor disclosed that he made the move alongside members of his cabinet and several influential PDP stakeholders in the state.
He explained that the decision was driven by the need to advance development in Adamawa, adding that aligning with the party at the federal level would enhance collaboration and unlock more opportunities for growth.
Fintiri, who first assumed office in 2019 under the PDP and secured re-election in 2023, has been a notable figure among opposition governors in the North-East. His administration has focused on infrastructure development, education reforms, and boosting agricultural productivity.
Speculation about his defection had grown in recent months following his public praise of certain policies introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly reforms aimed at improving state revenues and promoting fiscal federalism.
The governor’s switch is expected to reshape the political landscape in Adamawa, long regarded as a key battleground between the PDP and APC, with potential implications for future elections in the state.
