FIFA U-20 WWCQ: Edo ready to host Falconets/Tanzania clash

Arrangements towards successful hosting of the African qualifiers for
the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 between Nigeria Falconets
and Tanzania national team in Benin City have reached an advance
stage.
The Nigeria’s U-20 women national team coached by Peter Dedevbo will
play Tanzania in their first round qualifying fixtures on September
16th, 2017, at the famous Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City just as
the stadium is already wearing a new look ahead of the encounter.
Speaking to sports writers at the stadium on Saturday was the Edo
State Football Association chairman, Frank Ilaboya who confirmed the
readiness of the state government to host a befitting World Cup
qualifier’s in the ancient City.
The veteran journalist noted “Edo state is ready to host the match as
everyone can see that the stadium is wearing a new look. The state
government has said that the state is hosting and we are going to host
well.
“Arrangement has been made for the accommodation of the two teams.
Falconets are coming in on Monday and camp in the state till the end
of the game while Tanzania ladies are coming in on Thursday. Hotels
have been booked for these teams and their officials.
“The facilities are been upgraded, it is just for us to play a good
football. I am calling on all Edo sons and daughters to come and fill
this stadium on Saturday and cheer the Nigerian falconets to victory.
It is a revival sports event even when Edo Queens are not in the Super
Four; we still want to revive football across the state.
“I want to thank the state government for these initiatives in Edo,
and after next Saturday, Nigerian Women Football League Super Four is
coming on October 9th-14th, 2017, and this is just part of the
initiatives to get the groove, I am so excited and thank Edo State
government for opening up the space for sports and football in
particular.”
It could be recalled that Falconets had twice reached the final of the
U-20 World Cup in 2010 and 2014 in Germany and France respectively
hereby losing to Germany 1-0 on both occasions.
