The Federal Government has formally signed the concession agreement for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, marking a major step toward the modernisation of Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, as part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to upgrade key airports through public-private partnerships (PPP).
According to officials, the concession arrangement is expected to attract private sector investment for the expansion, rehabilitation and efficient management of the Enugu airport, which serves as a critical aviation hub for the South-East region. The move is also aimed at improving passenger experience, enhancing safety standards and boosting operational efficiency in line with global best practices.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to repositioning the aviation sector as a driver of economic growth, job creation and regional connectivity.
