FG Engages PENGASSAN, Dangote Refinery in High-Level Emergency Meeting
The Federal Government is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and representatives of Dangote Refinery at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.
Convened at the request of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammad Maigari Dingyadi, the meeting aims to address and resolve the ongoing dispute between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery.
PENGASSAN is being represented by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, alongside the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Nuhu Toro. On the government’s side, Minister Dingyadi is leading the delegation.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government had, on Sunday, summoned both parties to an emergency meeting in response to the escalating tensions between the union and the refinery’s management.
Although originally scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., the meeting did not commence until around 3:50 p.m. due to the delayed arrival of key stakeholders. After initial remarks, the session proceeded behind closed doors.
In his opening address, Minister Dingyadi emphasized the significance of the talks, stating: “What’s happening today is very dear to our economy and to the security of the country. We have been informed that PENGASSAN is on strike.”
