FG Clarifies: No Agreement Signed With ASUU

The federal government has clarified that it has not finalized any agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), emphasizing that negotiations are still at the draft stage.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa addressed recent media reports claiming an agreement had been reached, dismissing them as inaccurate.

“There were reports on Thursday suggesting that we held a meeting with ASUU and reached an agreement. That is incorrect,” Alausa said. “What actually took place was a broader consultative session involving key stakeholders, where we reviewed the draft proposal under consideration.”

The minister further revealed that a committee, headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, has been established to examine ASUU’s demands in detail and formulate a comprehensive counter-proposal.

Once finalized, the revised document will be submitted to the committee led by Yayale Ahmed for further engagement with the union.
