Female Relative of ISWAP/JAS Terrorists Surrenders to Troops in Bama

A female family member linked to suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists has surrendered to troops operating in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the woman voluntarily surrendered at about 10:08 a.m. on May 19 to troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion under Sector 1 Area of Responsibility.

According to the sources, the female surrenderer emerged from Gargash village in Bama LGA and presented herself to the troops without resistance.

Military authorities reportedly profiled and documented her in line with established operational procedures for further necessary action.

The latest surrender adds to the growing number of defections involving insurgents and their relatives in the North-East amid intensified military offensives against terrorist enclaves across the region.

Security sources noted that sustained counterterrorism operations within the Lake Chad Basin and Sambisa forest have continued to place pressure on insurgent groups, resulting in increasing cases of surrender by fighters and their family members.

The military has maintained that all surrendered persons undergo profiling, intelligence gathering, and other processes in accordance with extant operational guidelines.
