Fayose predicts two more governors will defect soon

blames crisis on leadership failure,

Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, has said that the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can only be resolved by confronting what he described as the party’s leadership failures.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, Fayose likened the state of the opposition party to a “decaying fish,” saying the decay has reached the top.

“When a fish decays from the body, you can salvage it, but when it decays from the head, it’s beyond saving,” he said. “Right now, the PDP has decayed from the head.”

The former governor, known for his outspoken criticism of his party’s leadership, maintained that he has consistently warned about the PDP’s internal rot and looming troubles.

“I have never deceived Nigerians about the situation in the PDP. I remain a committed member, but I won’t pretend—PDP is in serious trouble,” Fayose said.
“As a Yoruba man, I also support the president. I’ve said before that three PDP governors would defect, and it has already started happening.”

Fayose claimed that governors from Bayelsa, Enugu, and Taraba states had already defected, and more would soon follow.

“After my last interview, Governor Diri left. The governor of Enugu left, and the Taraba governor has also crossed over. Another one—Plateau’s governor—will leave soon. And after that, more will go,” he predicted.

The PDP, ahead of its scheduled national convention on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been split into two rival factions—one loyal to acting national chairman Umar Damagum and the other aligned with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Fayose belongs to the Wike-led camp.

The leadership crisis deepened following conflicting court rulings: while a federal high court in Abuja halted the planned convention on October 31 for failing to meet constitutional requirements, an Oyo State high court later ordered the party and Damagum to proceed with it on November 4.
