Fayose Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Atiku Over Minna Meeting Statement

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to publicly disown a statement allegedly issued by one of his media aides, Paul Ibe, regarding a recent meeting held in Minna.

Fayose, in a statement dated February 12, 2026, expressed amusement over what he described as a response by Ibe to his earlier disclosure about what transpired at a meeting between Atiku and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Minna.

The former governor said he found the reaction from Atiku’s media aide surprising but maintained that out of respect for the former vice president, he would assume that Atiku did not authorise the statement.

“I saw the response of one Paul Ibe, one of the Media Aides to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to my release on what transpired at his meeting in Minna with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and I can’t but be amused,” Fayose said.

He added that he expects Atiku to issue a rebuttal within 48 hours if indeed the statement was not authorised by him.

“However, because of my respect for Atiku, I will want to assume that he did not authorise the press statement and I will expect that after seeing it, he will within 48 hours, cause a rebuttal to be issued on it,” he stated.

Fayose further warned that failure by Atiku to publicly disown the statement within the stipulated timeframe would compel him to reveal more details about the Minna meeting, including those he described as the “facilitators and executioners” of the gathering and what was allegedly said about former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

“Should Atiku not publicly disown the statement within the next 48 hours, I will have no option but to spill more beans… particularly what was said about Wike, and by then, I will be doing so without any atom of respect for him,” Fayose warned.

He concluded by saying, “Till then, we keep our gunpowder dry.”

The development adds a fresh twist to ongoing political realignments and behind-the-scenes consultations ahead of future political contests.
