False Alarm: DSS dismisses claim of detaining Evangelist in Nasarawa incident
The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed a viral Facebook post claiming that its operatives arrested one Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for allegedly raising a false alarm about a supposed attack by Fulani herdsmen during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DSS described the post as “false and misleading,” noting that it appeared deliberately crafted to discredit the agency and heighten public tension.
According to the DSS, at no time was Evangelist Daniel invited or taken into custody. The Service further revealed that the evangelist’s wife, Elizabeth—who authored the viral claim—confirmed upon inquiry that her husband was with her at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, not in DSS custody.
The agency warned that such misinformation poses risks to public peace and could interfere with ongoing security operations. It urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified sources and official communication channels to curb the spread of disinformation capable of distorting national security matters.
The statement was signed by Favour Dozie, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, DSS National Headquarters, Abuja.
